About this service

Editorial Policy

Every page on this site is written to serve one question, states figures only with a named source, geography and period attached, and carries the date it was last reviewed. We do not publish invented statistics, fabricated testimonials, or valuations of any kind.

Lothian Property is an independent property information and introduction service. We are not an estate agency.

What we will not publish

There are four things you will never find on this site, whatever the SEO argument for them.

  • An unsourced market statistic
  • A fabricated review, testimonial, rating or case study
  • An automated or invented valuation of a specific property
  • A claim to be an estate agent or to act in a transaction

How figures are handled

Any number on a page carries the source, the exact geography it describes, the period it covers and the date we last checked it. Where we do not hold a figure we can attribute that way, we say so instead of estimating.

Our primary sources are Registers of Scotland for completed sale prices, ESPC for Edinburgh market activity, Scottish Government guidance for the legal process, and Revenue Scotland for tax.

How pages are reviewed

Each page shows when it was published and when it was last updated. Pages carrying figures are reviewed when the underlying source publishes new data; process pages are reviewed when the guidance changes.

Market reports are archived rather than overwritten, so the historical record stays readable.

Independence from partners

Professionals who pay us for introductions have no influence over what we publish, and no page is written or amended at a partner's request. Our commercial model is set out in full on the how we make money page.

Corrections

If you believe something on this site is wrong, tell us through the contact page. Where a factual error is confirmed we correct it and update the review date on the page.

Nothing here is legal, tax or financial advice. Selling a property in Scotland requires your own solicitor, and tax questions need a qualified accountant.
